The Ashby Triathlon is aimed at all levels of fitness and ability, whether it's your first triathlon or you are trying to improve on your previous performance.
This is the second year of the Ashby Triathlon and after last years success we have introduced a shorter distance triathlon as well as the standard distances triathlon, with the aim to introduce more people to take on the challenge of this great sport.
You can enter the event as an individual and complete all three disciplines on your own or as a relay team with friends or colleagues.

What is Triathlon?
Triathlon is a multi-discipline event where people compete against the clock and each other. Swimming, cycling and running with no break except for the transition (this is a quick pit stop to change for the next discipline).

Information for beginners
Last Year over 70% of the field took on their first triathlon.  All you need is a swimming costume or trunks, goggles (not compulsory), a bike (road or mountain bike as long as it is in roadworthy condition),a cycle helmet (compulsory) and a pair of trainers.
So go on give it a tri? You will be given full instructions before the event and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch, by email or social media.

The individual triathlon
This is open to anyone over the age of 15 (on 31/12/19). You must complete all three disciplines with no outside assistance. Your time will be taken from when you start the swim to when you finish the run.

The Junior triathlon
This is open to anyone aged 8-15 (on 31/12/19).  This will be all on the field behind the leisure centre and totally traffic free.  It is all about taking part, if you need to rest, stop at any point during the event, you can, we just want the younger athletes to get around and take part whatever their ability.  Full, understandable, instructions will be given on the day and the juniors will be in view for most of the event making it great for family members and spectators.

The relay triathlon
Each member of the team completes one discipline.
The first member swims 400m and runs out to tag the cyclist who then continues on the 20K bike, on their return the cyclist tags the runner who goes on to complete the 5K run to finish the event.

The swim - 200m / 400m
To start the event you will swim 12 or 6 lengths of the outdoor heated swimming pool (any stroke is fine) and then you make your way to the transition area and prepare for the bike ride.

The bike 10K or 20K
After completing the swim you will then jump on your bike for 20K around the local country lanes. The route is 1 or 2 laps, which is mostly flat with a hill on each lap.

Run 2.5K / 5K
Once the bike has been completed you then return to transition for the run, this is 1 or 2 laps around the surrounding paths and includes some off road sections.

We are always in need of marshals on the course so if there are any partners or friends out there that are willing to help please get in touch with us and you will be rewarded with a Free entry to an event of your choice (this can be transferred to another person) goody bag and t-shirt. Telephone 07548 545946 or

Race facilities
The centre has ample toilets, full changing facilities and showers. There is a viewing area running the length of the pool for spectators. You will also be able to purchase light refreshments at the event.

Start times (between 8am and 12am)
Your exact start time will be determined by the swim time on your entry form. Please be as accurate as possible so that you will be swimming with people of similar ability with faster competitors setting off later in the day.  If you are not sure at this point you can supply this nearer the date, we will send out a reminder 3 weeks before the event, if this isn't supplied at the point of entry.

Race rules
The event will be held under the rules of the British Triathlon federation. As always, your bicycle must be in roadworthy condition and an approved cycle helmet must be worn.

Prizes will be awarded to first in each 10 year age category (for adults) and the following juniors (8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15) as well as Relay teams,

Finishers T-shirt
